About the Journey

Introduction

Organizational Change Management (OCM) is the discipline focused on the people side of change and facilitates the transition from a current state to a desired future state using a structured framework and tools.

Examples include:

  • Providing training and coaching that help empower leaders to manage and direct change effectively.
  • Helping stakeholders understand why the change is needed and the risk of not changing.
  • Communicating the benefits to impacted stakeholders and the organization.
  • Helping to enable business transformation by ensuring the appropriate stakeholders, people who have a vested interest in the change or who are impacted by it, are engaged in the right activities at the right time.

It is important to begin OCM efforts at the start of the change initiative or earlier and to keep the OCM efforts going throughout the life of the initiative. Implementing Organizational Change Management is beneficial when people are required to adopt a new way of working. OCM reduces resistance encountered when people are required to change their behavior to successfully operate in a future state.
