Fundamentals of Personnel

Introduction Module (run time: approximately 7 minutes) 

This module will introduce the Fundamentals of Personnel series of classes, as well as provide some general information and resources for Personnel Specialists (PS) in California State Service. It also contains references and contacts for partner agencies that the PS will find useful in their duties.

Module 1: Qualifying and Non-Qualifying Pay Periods (run time: approximately 10 minutes)

This module will provide an overview of Qualifying and Non-qualifying pay periods, as well as informal leave of absence (Dock). It contains foundational knowledge for all other Fundamentals of Personnel modules and is highly suggested to be completed before viewing other modules.

Fundamentals of Personnel Modules 1 & 2 are prerequisites for the Fundamentals of Personnel (A) - Virtual Class. 

Module 2: Sick Leave and Vacation Leave (run time: approximately 25 minutes)

This module will provide an overview of sick leave and vacation leave accrual and usage.

Fundamentals of Personnel Modules 1 & 2 are prerequisites for the Fundamentals of Personnel (A) – Virtual Class. 

Module 3: Appointments (run time: approximately 23 minutes)

This module will provide an overview of Civil Service Appointments.
