Temporary Suspension of Student Loan Garnishments Update
Action Required by Department: Share the following information with all human resources (HR) office employees.
Description: The U.S. Department of Education has extended the suspension period of student loan garnishments through September 30, 2021. This suspension period is for U.S. Department of Education owned loans. All other student loan garnishment can be re-established if requested by the lender. Agencies can now submit a STD. 639 Salary Garnishment form to re-establish Defaulted Student Loan 339-008 garnishments. In response to this update, the State Controller's Office (SCO) has created a new ViewDirect Report ID PDE3016-1 - 339-008 STUDENT LOAN GARNISHMENTS CANCELLED. This report reflects all of the student loan garnishments that were cancelled in mass in the April 2020 pay period.
