State Disability Insurance (SDI)
Module 1 (run time: approximately 23 minutes)
This training module viewers will define a disability, State Disability Insurance benefit systems, and key forms used during the benefit payment process. Define the basic purpose and eligibility for Disability and Paid Family Leave claims and identify the differences between the Disability Insurance and Paid Family Leave benefits systems.
Module 2 (run time: approximately 27 minutes)
This module's focus discussion is regarding communication between the Employment Development Department's State Disability Insurance, the Employee, and the Employer. It will identify general communication and associated documents utilized between State Disability Insurance, Employees, Employers, and the State Controller's Office regarding Disability Insurance or Paid Family Leave. Identify key entries to be made on the Employer’s Notice of Disability or Paid Family Leave and define the purpose, timing and utilization when keying an S57 versus the S50, and the A03.
Module 3 (run time: approximately 24 minutes)
This module will provide a brief overview of available leave benefits and programs regarding employees on SDI or PFL, as well as employees working and or using supplementation options. It will also provide answers to common questions regarding transitions between SDI and NDI. It will identify general information regarding available leave and benefit programs to aid with employee Disability or Paid Family Leave submittals. Define key SDI program information related to processing retirements and separations. Identify key entries to be made on the S50 for employees working while receiving SDI/PFL benefits and define employee bargaining unit eligibility.
Module 4 (run time: approximately 28 minutes)
This final module will continue discussion regarding benefits and supplementation via forms 674AR and 674D, as well as a brief demonstration of the State Disability Insurance Supplementation Calculator for the purposes of verifying an employee’s possible supplementation per pay period, if they have sufficient leave credits available. It will identify the purpose and use of the forms 674 A/R and 674D. Identify the steps required for requesting supplementing with leave credits or SDI overpayments. Demonstrate use of the SDI Supplementation Calculator, identify key entries to be made on the 674D, and identify additional resources and contacts for processing employee history.
