Temporary Cancellation of Default Student Loan Garnishments Update
Action Required by Department: Share the following information with all human resources (HR) office employees.
Description: On April 06, 2022, the United States (U.S.) Secretary of Education extended the suspension period through August 31, 2022, for U.S. Department of Education-owned student loans. This extension results in a temporary cancellation of default student loan garnishments. The State Controller's Office (SCO) will issue a new Payroll Letter with instructions for reestablishing the garnishments prior to the September 2022 pay period.
