“Engaging Youth in Financial Fitness”

Special guest panelists: 

Dylan Jin-Ngo – Founder and Executive Director, Youth Investors Corp

While a high school student, Dylan Jin-Ngo established Youth Investors Corp (YIC), an organization focused on bringing access and educational equity to financial fitness. YIC has partnered with Boys and Girls Clubs, public libraries, and governmental agencies in Los Angeles, Orange, and Santa Barbara counties. At 16 years old, he was certified as the youngest Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor.

Katiuska Delgado Kirkwood – Senior Vice President of Programs, Junior Achievement of Southern California

Kat Delgado Kirkwood oversees the Junior Achievement of Southern California programs, including JA SoCal Finance Park, which seeks to prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. The JA SoCal programming for K-12 students focus on the basics and continue towards competency related to financial fitness.

 

“Challenge and Opportunity for California’s Returning Workforce”

Panelists discusses challenges facing workers returning to the workforce after the pandemic and resources to help.

Kelly LoBianco – Executive Director of Economic and Workforce Development, Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging, and Community Services. 

In this capacity, Kelly is establishing a countywide economic and workforce development strategy that centers an equitable recovery and inclusive growth and will cultivate a vibrant, regional economy with opportunity and mobility for all workers, businesses, and communities.

Sarah Bohn – Vice President and John and Louise Bryson chair in policy research and senior fellow, Public Policy Institute of California

Sarah is also a member of the PPIC Higher Education Center. Her research focuses on the role of social safety net policy and education policy in alleviating poverty and enhancing economic mobility.

 

“Meeting Food Insecurity Challenges in California”

Food banks play a critical role in ensuring basic food needs are met regardless of financial situation. This session explores the role of food banks and the impacts of food insecurity on individuals, families, and the community.

Special guest panelist: Natalie Caples – Co-CEO, Central California Food Bank

Caples joined the Food Bank in 2008 and worked as Nutrition Education Coordinator, Programs Supervisor, Programs Manager and Director of Programs before becoming COO in 2016. She has served as Co-CEO since May 2020.

Special guest panelist: Janet Larsen, Janet Larsen, Certified Financial Planner. 

Janet has been in financial services for 18 years and earned the Certified Financial Planner – the CFP® designation – in 2008. Janet was chair of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of California last year. She teaches financial literacy courses through the Orange County chapter of the FPA. Along with other CFP®s, she donates time to helping low-income people in need with pro bono/free financial planning advice through the Financial Planning Association. She also volunteers at the Advisers Give Back platform. Janet teaches a weekly yoga class that helps her release the stresses of the financial markets.

Auditor Wong was elected as the City Auditor in November 2018, managing independent audits for the City of Berkeley. Her office’s audits have received the exemplary Knighton award for the last two years from the Association of Local Government Auditors. Prior to that, Jenny spent 18 years at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).
