Tips for Lump Sum Separation Pay

Action Required: Share the following information with all human resources (HR) office employees.

Description: To help ensure that your lump sum separation Personnel Action Request (PAR) packages are accurately processed and meet the mandated requirements, use the tools in the Lump Sum Separation Toolkit and follow these tips:

  • Urgent: Prevent Overpayment of Regular Pay (PAR Item 606)
  • For all Lump Sum PAR packages submitted to the State Controller's Office without the S70 being keyed: The S70 must be keyed by the departmental HR Office before December 18, 2025; not doing so may result in overpayment due to regular pay issuing (PAR Item 606).
  • Do not submit a corrected PAR package for this situation. The Statewide Civil Service Audits Program will verify Employment History and update the PAR package to reflect the PAR as an S70C.
  • For additional information regarding PAR Item 606 – Time To Be Paid (New), see PAM Section 2.79.
  • For Pay to Issue in the 2025 Tax Year
  • If the employee wants their regular pay to issue in the 2025 tax year, PAR Item 615 must be checked, otherwise their regular pay will have an issue date of January 1, 2026. Also, when keying the S70, the departmental HR Office must key PAR Items 606, 615 and PAR Item 888 to make it a complete transaction.
