Scope of Position:

Under general direction provided by the Information Technology Supervisor II, and utilizing knowledge of information technology concepts, practices, and methods, the Information Technology  Specialist I performs a variety of assignments of advanced complexity involving analysis, development, and implementation of technological solutions, as well as documents and supports new and existing databases, applications, and other production systems in the State Accounting and Reporting Division (SARD).

Duties and Responsibilities:
(Candidates must perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodations.)

  • Assist with design, coding, maintenance and enhancements to various databases and systems use by SARD in relation to the State’s Fiscal, Budgetary/Legal, and GAAP systems as well as the division’s File Interface Staging Engine (FISE) as it relates to the state-wide FI$Cal system.
  • Provide desktop support for division staff including installation and configuration of various software and hardware including personal computers, network printers, and mobile devices. 
  • Provide outstanding customer service support and interact effectively with all levels of users in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Monitor and resolve problems with information technology systems hardware, software, and implementation of processes. 
  • Assist with installation of software upgrades and administrative tasks (access, configurations, etc.).
  • Perform procurement and asset management functions including ordering, deploying, surveying and submitting requests for warranty repair. 
  • Analyze accounting database and financial systems to include development of new systems and daily resolution of operational and procedural problems of existing systems. 
  • Analyze existing methods and develop business process improvements and technology solutions. Develop alternatives and make recommendations to management regarding business application efficiencies.
  • Maintain and manage user accounts in Active Directory.
  • Provide staff training in the use of equipment and PC applications to users.  As needed, work one-on-one with users to ensure understanding of new equipment and applications.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and documentation.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience working with a PC and applicable knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to establish, promote, and maintain cooperative working relationships. 
  • Good work habits, attendance, and attitude. 
  • Ability to use tact and good judgment.
