SACRAMENTO — State Controller Betty T. Yee today updated her Government Compensation in California website to include 2016 self-reported salary and benefits data for K-12 education employers, including public school districts, charter schools, and county offices of education. The data covers 634,314 positions across the state and more than $25.55 billion in wages.
While cities, counties, and special districts are required to report salary and benefits data to the State Controller, K-12 education employers are voluntary reporters. The State Controller’s Office requested data from 1,912 K-12 education employers, and 514 chose to report in the interest of transparency. Of those, 471 reports were complete. About 75 percent of K-12 education employers did not file the requested reports or provided incomplete information.
Since the website launched in 2010, it has registered more than 10 million page views. The site now contains information on more than two million jobs annually in California, as reported by each government entity.
As the chief fiscal officer of California, Controller Yee is responsible for accountability and disbursement of the state’s financial resources. The Controller also safeguards many types of property until claimed by the rightful owners, and has independent auditing authority over government agencies that spend state funds. She is a member of numerous financing authorities, and fiscal and financial oversight entities including the Franchise Tax Board. She also serves on the boards for the nation’s two largest public pension funds. Elected in 2014, Controller Yee is the tenth woman elected to a statewide office in California’s history.
