SACRAMENTO — State Controller Malia M. Cohen today responds to Governor Newsom’s address on the budget:

“While the Governor had difficult choices to make to address the budget shortfall, I’m confident that the budget announced today will keep California moving forward and continue the work necessary to support vital public health and safety programs along with other core services. As Controller, my office is prepared to provide the tools and resources necessary to ensure the state meets its financial obligations and maintains economic stability.”

As the chief fiscal officer of California, Controller Cohen is responsible for accountability and disbursement of the state’s financial resources. The Controller has independent auditing authority over government agencies that spend state funds. She is a member of numerous financing authorities, and fiscal and financial oversight entities including the Franchise Tax Board.
