SACRAMENTO — State Controller Betty T. Yee today reacted to the Trump Administration’s announcement that they will repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals initiative (DACA):

“Immigrants – as workers, as students, and as consumers – are powerful contributors to California being the 6th largest economy in the world. Our economy relies on entrepreneurs at the forefront of innovation and ingenuity, taxpayers, and business owners – many of them foreign-born.

California will not leave our Dreamers behind. We will fight this cruel form of discrimination targeting hard-working students striving to become the leaders of tomorrow. We will continue to work to lift undocumented Californians out of the shadows, to give them the dignity and respect they deserve as they work tirelessly and courageously each day in our schools, our businesses, and our communities to realize their dreams.”

As the chief fiscal officer of California, Controller Yee is responsible for accountability and disbursement of the state’s financial resources. The Controller also safeguards many types of property until claimed by the rightful owners, and has independent auditing authority over government agencies that spend state funds. She is a member of numerous financing authorities, and fiscal and financial oversight entities including the Franchise Tax Board. She also serves on the boards for the nation’s two largest public pension funds. Elected in 2014, Controller Yee is the tenth woman elected to a statewide office in California’s history.
