Controller John Chiang, who also is Chairman of the State Franchise Tax Board, is offering free income tax assistance for low-income families at the State Controller’s offices in Los Angeles and Sacramento. Taxpayers will receive assistance from volunteers registered through the Internal Revenue Service’s Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Appointments at the Los Angeles Office, located at 777 South Figueroa St, Suite 4800, can be made by calling 213-833-6010.

Appointments at the Sacramento Office, located at 300 Capitol Mall, can be made by calling 916-445-2636.

The Controller’s Office is also supporting VITA centers across California by providing additional volunteers and expanding their service capacity. The calendar below shows their scheduled visits to community-based sites in seven counties. Additional dates and times will be added throughout the tax filing season. Most VITA centers are open through April 15. For other service hours and dates, please phone the VITA site nearest you.
